Black Powder

How do I measure what caliber Black powder pistol I have ?
I bought a second hand CVA black powder revolver at auction and would like to shoot it. But I cant find what caliber it is. It the first gun Ive ever owned that didn't have it stamped on the barrel, and believe me Ive gone all over it. Theres a serial # but no caliber. Thanks
CVA no longer sells or services black power revolver and they sold all their revolver parts inventory to Deer Creek Products. So their warranty isn’t worth the paper its printed on. Their revolvers were made in several countries mostly Spain. They will work but never ever over load one with a brass frame.
They made a .31 caliber Colt and Remington models that took a .320 ball
A .36 caliber Colt that took a .375 - .380 ball
A .44 caliber Colt and Remington that took a .451 - .454 round ball
And a Colt Wlaker and 3rd mdl Dragoon that alos took a .451 or .454 round ball.
Here is the manuel for those CVA pistols with loading data and instructions;

Use a tape measure and measure the cylinder opening, if it measures about 5/16” then is a .31 cal, if it measures about 3/8” its .36 cal, if it measures 7/16” it’s a .451.
Use the chart for power charges to be safe. And remember to cover the loaded balls with bore butter or Crisco to prevent chain fire. Only use black powder or black powder substitutes.
