Visions Thomas

Thomas Jefferson question?
Thomas Jefferson and his followers upheld a special vision for what America should become.
1) Coul you please describe the society Jefferson envisioned and describe the types of people who tended to share in this vision. Who did not share in this vision?
2)What was their ideal for America?
3)What were the larger social, economic, and cultural forces that moved America away from Jefferson’s ideal?
Please, help me out with these questions. They are for my American Experience class. Since Im not american, it is hard for me to understand how the history of the US ocurred. Thank you.
1.Thomas Jefferson wanted the common people to have a high degree of control over the government. In this way he felt that the government would not become too powerful or currupt. Jefferson was a strict constructionist and wanted the constitution to mean exaclty what it said. He had no intention of leaving room for interpretation. Jefferson was against a national bank and against large national programs such as roads.
2. They wanted an America where people were left alone, not taxed and left to work the land for food.
3. the need to defend ourselfs. After Shay's Rebellion, a small farmer rebelled against the rich, people realized that the current system of government was not working. A new system needed to be set up that allowed for taxation to create an army to defend against popular uprises, Native American attacks, and the British, who were still in the United States. The original Articles of Confederation were abandoned for today's Constitution in 1789.
