Where can i find a koa wood acoustic guitar?
i really want a koa wood acoustic guitar, kinda like taylor swifts. where can i find a reliable, cheap one. i dont wanna spend alot, as for this is my first guitar and i am teaching myself. thanks so much!!
For a first instrument, Koa isn't a very good choice.
It's very expensive, and new Koa guitars take a long time of seasoning and playing to really get the best out of them (the wood takes time to "open up", more than most).
Takamine and Dean have reasonably priced Koa laminate guitars however which look like Koa while being cheaper and having a more stable initial sound.
Personally I don't care for the Dean at all, but the Takamine certainly has my interest if I buy a new guitar again (right now I don't play much so the 4 instruments I do have are enough).
Do not be scared by the price I'm going to mention, as it's not high for a good guitar and actually dirt cheap for a Koa one.

Koa is an exceptionally rare wood, a highly endangered species that grows exclusively on some mountain sides on Hawaii.
As such supplies are extremely limited, and supplies of logs large enough to make guitars out of even more so.
That's why it's so expensive (and why it may even be illegal to import into some countries).
