Is a five year old african grey parrot able to talk?
I bought a african grey parrot from the pet shop from 5 month and he didnt talk a single word yet. How much time does he still need to talk.
If you've had him for 4 1/2 years so far, and he hasn't tried to talk at all, then he may be one of the few that won't talk. That's not to say he can't talk, he just choosing not to.
How much do you talk to him? Owners need to talk to Greys like they are human children, and read to them, engage their interest with rhymes and so forth. If you basically ignore this aspect, then they aren't being encouraged to talk in any meaningful way.
Even tiny parrotlets (smaller than budgies) will try to "parrot" words and phrases when encouraged by an enthusiastic owner. And a lack of trying to talk usually indicates that the owner is not really making the effort.
Only the words and phrases expressed enthusiastically will become part of a parrot's vocabulary.
